The Ride

2010 Peace Officer Memorial Bicycle Ride
Each year a group of bicycle riders representing Police Agencies through out Orange County join together to commemorate the lives of those Orange County Police Officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice – they’ve given their lives in the line of duty. The riders do this by cycling 630 miles from Sacramento to Orange County to raise money for Project 999.

Group Format
The ride is conducted in a relay format to allow for riders of all skill levels to participate in this fund raiser. Riders are divided into three groups based on ability. Each group rides a segment of the 630 miles each day. The following is a general break down of the three groups:

Group A: 80-100 miles per day Average Speed:18-20 MPH
Group B: 60-80 miles per day Average Speed: 16-19 MPH
Group C: 50-60 miles per day Average Speed: 14-17 MPH

Bicycle Riders Requirements
Each rider is required to have a road bike and must raise $1000. $700 is donated to Project 999 and the remaining $300 is used to offset the cost for food and lodging during the ride.

Support Personnel Requirements
Each support person is required raise $300 to offset the cost for food and lodging during the ride.

Opportunity Drawing Prizes
Each rider and support person is also responsible for donating one prize for the opportunity drawing, valued at a minimum of $25. The riders and support personnel will be given the opportunity to sell tickets for the drawing that is held at the end of the ride. The sale of the opportunity tickets is a way in which riders and support personnel can raise funds toward their required donation.
